the other day i met a woman who was the epitome of walking in forgiveness. her husband (a pastor at the time) confessed that he had been having an on-line affair. it actually got worse than that (if it can get worse than that) and he told her that he actually preferred the other woman and had no intention of going to marriage counseling - and that the other woman meant so much to him he was resigning from the pastorate - giving up ministry and God. that's a lot to hear on one day and a lot … [Read more...]
Dr. Phil – Tyler Perry & Forgiveness
last week i had a day off of work and i watched dr. phil. tyler perry was one of the guests that day. i enjoyed watching scenes from his latest movie - including the cameo of dr. phil. one of the most powerful things that tyler perry shared was how forgiveness (that is forgiving his dad specifically) had changed his life. dr. phil echoed the importance of forgiving and how really forgiving others sets us free. i have learned that to be true in my own life. of course i have read about … [Read more...]
Marriage and Seasons of Life
i have been married for just over 25 years. in that 25 years i have changed a lot. i mean - a lot - a lot. i don't look the same. i don't talk the same. i don't even like some of the same things or even some of the same foods that i used to. time - maturity - life experiences - relationships have a way of causing us to see things differently. i mean honestly when i was in my 20's i thought i had a lot of the answers. when i was in the 30's i realized i had some questions. now, … [Read more...]
Audio Book Recording Right Sizing Your Life
i went to a recording studio last evening to do an audio version of my book Right Sizing Your Life. i've done a lot of television - but this was a new venture for me. my first big accomplishment was to actually find the place with one try. i was thrilled that i didn't get lost. i've gotten lost with even the best of directions so this was an added blessing. we were able to record over half of the book last evening. it went quickly and was very enjoyable. when i look back on it it … [Read more...]
Seasons of Life
yesterday i set out on a drive to to meet a friend for lunch. the friend lives a few hours away so we decided to "meet in the middle". that happened to be jackson, TN. for me it was about a 2.5 hour drive. if you've ever driven on I-40 East (memphis) you know what a boring drive this can be. the land is just flat. it goes on forever (or at least it seems that way). there are long stretches in which there is just NOTHING. trees sporadically line each side of the interstate and … [Read more...]
Bootcamp & Discipline
i am getting ready to go to boot camp today. it's an extreme workout & i usually love it and hate it at the same time. today though i am really tired and i don't want to go. i have worked so many hours the last 1.5 weeks and i think my get up and go - got up and went as the old saying goes. nonetheless, iam going to make myself go to bootcamp today. after all, i'll be glad i worked out when it's over. i also know it's good to get back into my normal schedule. discipline and … [Read more...]
E-Cards
today i received a really thoughtful e-card from a dear friend. it was such a thoughtful gesture and such a reminder of our friendship. the e-card also included a passage of scripture about God's unconditional love. it was one of those things that made my very busy day seem brighter and happier. that's the way God's Word is to me each and every day. sometimes when i am really busy and in the "thick of things" i temporarily forget or least don't seem to remember how much God loves me. … [Read more...]
It’s raining so hard I can’t see
today i dropped my boss and his wife off at the airport. it's a trip i've taken many times before. today was different though. the winds were fierce (i could barely keep my car on the road) and it was raining. at one point, it was a torrential downpour. it rained so hard that i had to slow way down. in fact, many cars pulled to the side of the road to wait it out. i continued to move forward - very slowly though. i could hardly see. i could see just the little bit of space before … [Read more...]
Busy Weekend NRB Convention
this will be a busy weekend for me. it is the national religious broadcaster's convention and it's in nashville this year so it's close for me. today, i am heading out to the airport to pick up a couple of people from our CTN station in clearwater. it will be so good to see them again. i was at the opryland convention center last night and saw several people that i know in christian broadcasting. it was good to see them and catch up. it's always encouraging to see how God is moving in … [Read more...]
Prayers that don’t get answered they way we would like
i get asked a lot of different questions about life the bible - God, and relationships. people that i don't even know that see me on television will sometimes just walk right up and ask me about really tough stuff. quite often i'm asked about prayers that seem to go unanswered. this week i had the opportunity to experience that first hand. for quite some time i had been asking our Father to do something really special in someones life. an event came up in this person's life and i … [Read more...]
